SAS Nagar, May 15, 2026: District Election Officer-cum-Deputy Commissioner Mrs. Komal Mittal today stated that the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in District Sahibzada Ajit Singh Nagar would be carried out in a completely transparent, systematic, and time-bound manner in accordance with the directions of the Election Commission of India (ECI).
She informed that the Election Commission of India has issued a notification for conducting the Special Intensive Revision of voter lists across Punjab, following which the district administration has initiated the necessary preparations for the smooth conduct of the exercise in District SAS Nagar.
Sharing details of the programme, Mrs. Mittal said that under the SIR drive, Booth Level Officers (BLOs) will undertake door-to-door visits from June 25, 2026, to July 24, 2026, to facilitate the filling and collection of prescribed forms from voters. For the successful execution of the exercise, the district administration has deployed 838 BLOs, 83 Supervisors, 3 Electoral Registration Officers (EROs), and 6 Assistant Electoral Registration Officers (AEROs).
She further informed that training of BLOs and other preparatory activities related to the revision process would be conducted from June 15 to June 24, 2026. Emphasising the significance of the exercise, the District Election Officer stated that the primary objective of the Special Intensive Revision is to ensure inclusion of every eligible citizen in the electoral roll while removing ineligible entries to maintain complete accuracy and integrity of voter lists.
Mrs. Mittal also cautioned that holding dual voter registration is an offence under the Constitution of India and is punishable with imprisonment of up to one year.
The District Election Officer informed that January 1, 2003, has been fixed as the qualifying date for the Special Intensive Revision. She further stated that the rationalisation of polling stations would be completed by July 24, 2026, while the draft electoral rolls would be published on July 31, 2026.
She added that claims and objections regarding the draft voter lists may be submitted from July 31 to August 30, 2026, and their disposal would be carried out between July 31 and September 28, 2026. The final publication of electoral rolls is scheduled for October 1, 2026.
Appealing to the residents of the district, Mrs. Komal Mittal urged all voters to extend full cooperation to the BLOs during the Special Intensive Revision process. She also informed that, for the convenience of voters, the electoral rolls prepared with the qualifying date of January 1, 2003, have been linked with the current voter database to facilitate easy verification and retrieval of records.
Highlighting the progress achieved so far, she stated that 65.74 percent mapping has already been completed in District SAS Nagar as part of the pre-revision activities. She further informed that BLOs would visit households up to three times, if required, for collection of forms related to the revision exercise.
Clarifying the role of Aadhaar during the process, Mrs. Mittal stated that Aadhaar Card would be accepted only as a means of identification and not as proof of citizenship during the SIR exercise.
The District Election Officer also appealed to all political parties in the district to appoint their Booth Level Agents (BLAs) to ensure smooth, transparent, and effective completion of the revision process.
